Hello! I am Mrs. Spangler, your child's 5th grade teacher this year. I am excited to starting my 31st year here at ICD, and my 33rd year of teaching. I taught 3rd grade for 20 years and this will be my 13th year teaching 5th grade. I graduated from UMSL with a bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in school counseling. I am very fortunate to have a wonderful husband and 2 children along with their families. I have also had the privilege of hosting two exchange students, one from Germany and one from Russia. I have been able to visit both of them at their homes. I am also very lucky that they have been able to come back for visits. Johannes and his wife were able to visit from Germany this summer. In my spare time I love to read, do needlework, and hike. I also love to travel and since my son and his family live in Norway, it gives me plenty of reasons to travel. Thanks goodness for Face Time. Fortunately, my daughter and her family live right here in Marthasville, so I get plenty of chances to play grandma on a regular basis. I am also a big fan of the Cardinals, Blues, and Mizzou Tigers.
I truly believe in teaching the whole child. I strive to create a classroom environment that helps my students to grow academically, spiritually, emotionally, and with the ability to be a contributing member of our classroom. Building relationships with the students in my classroom is very important, as well as each of the students building relationships with each other. Our theme: Unity: "of one heart and mind" is a goal that we will work very hard this year to accomplish.
