Homework - Math homework will be assigned most nights Monday- Thursday. There are two components. 1. Simple Solutions- This is a cyclical review of Math concepts. There is a helping guide in the back of the book. Please help your child if there is any concept that is challenging.  Math homework from the text  will also be assigned for each lesson. We will go over both items each morning in Math class.

Students will receive a weekly homework grade for My Math and Simple solutions (above). There is a 2 day grace period for late assignments. A reminder slip will be sent home. If not completed,  recess time will be used. Homework provides the extra reinforcement for what has been studied in class. It also encourages growth and responsibility!

Tests are part of homework. They will be posted on the 3rd grade weekly Bulletin Board and in the planner. Your child will write down important details for the day in his/her planner. Please sign the planner each evening checking to see that your child has kept up with the items listed. This is very important because organization is key to success in school!

Book reports -  A book report will be given each quarter.

Projects- We will have a few projects this year.

Book Reports and projects will have a cap if they are late. It is 1% point off per day. The cap is 80% for 20 days late.

Math facts- We will start out the year reviewing addition and subtraction facts. However most of the year we will be doing multiplication and division.

Math-   MY Math will usually be nightly homework along with Simple Solutions. Your child has been assigned a “My Math” (our main textbook) password. The label has been taped to the front page of your child’s planner. This way I do not have to send the big book home to study for a test AND your child can print their nightly homework if he/she forgets to tear it out.

Prayers -  The “Apostles’ Creed” and the “Hail Holy Queen” are to be memorized and recited in third grade. We do say the prayers in class. The “Apostles’ Creed” must be recited by Christmas break and the “Hail Holy Queen” must be recited before May 15. This will be counted as a test grade (100 pts). The prayers are listed in the planner.

Handwriting - We have a handwriting practice book. All students will be writing in cursive by the end of the year.

Snack-Please send a healthy snack each day. I discourage the children from sharing because of food allergies.

Pencils - We use community pencils. If your child prefers to bring his/her own pencils that is fine too. (However please sharpen at home - Thank you!)

Water bottles- I ask that students take water bottles home each night to clean and fill them at home. We do not refill at school. (However if this is a concern for you, please contact me and we can change that).

Communication - This is a vital part of your child’s learning success! Please email [email protected] or call me for any questions or concerns that you may have. I will be doing the same for you. I also feel that some situations may require a conference so we can give your child the best service he/she deserves.
