Time & Talent Policy
Time & Talent Family Commitment Policy
Introduction: Immaculate Conception Dardenne Catholic School is committed to fostering a strong sense of community, cooperation, and engagement among our students, parents, and faculty. We believe that active parental involvement is crucial to the success of our school and the overall development of our students. To encourage families to contribute their time and talents to the betterment of our school community, we have implemented a Time & Talent Family Commitment Policy.
Policy Statement: All families enrolled at Immaculate Conception Dardenne Catholic School are required to accumulate a minimum number of points--to be determined annually--each year between August 1 and May 31 through volunteer opportunities provided and approved by the school. The goal of this policy is to promote a sense of community, enhance the educational experience of our students, and ensure the successful operation of school activities and events.
Volunteer Requirements: As stated in the Volunteers and Visitors Section of this Handbook, all parent volunteers must have completed the Prevent and Protect St. Louis Program, which includes completing the “Protecting God’s Children” class, mandated reporter, and code of conduct online training.
Point System: Volunteer opportunities will be assigned point values, and families can earn points by volunteering in these activities. The point values may vary depending on the level of involvement required for each opportunity. Points will be tracked and recorded by an electronic tracking system and monitored by school administration, with assistance from the Home School Organization (HSO) and the ICD School Board’s Stewardship & Finance Committee. It is the responsibility of each family to sign up for volunteer opportunities, accumulate the required points per school year, and ensure that they satisfy the requirement.
Volunteer Opportunities and Point Values:
-
- 2 points per event for shifts that are scheduled for 2 hours or less
- 3 points per event for shifts that are scheduled greater than 2 hours
-
- 2 points per event for subbing for a Half Day
- 4 points per event for subbing for a Full Day
*Substitute Teachers may still choose to be compensated, in addition to earning points.
School Administration has the discretion to add additional volunteer opportunities to the above list and assign a point value for each opportunity as they become available.
Logging Points: Families are responsible for signing up for volunteer opportunities and working their assigned shifts. Parents should sign in and out with the main office and/or with the coordinator of the event and ensure their attendance is recorded. The entire assigned shift must be worked to be awarded the points. Coordinators should record attendance after the event to assign earned points using the designated system provided by the school.
Consequences of Non-Compliance: Families who do not accumulate the required points by the end of the school year will be required to pay a penalty of $50/point that was not earned. The total penalty will be invoiced per MySchoolBucks in June each year.
Exceptions and Accommodations: The school acknowledges that some families may face challenges or circumstances that make it difficult to accumulate the required points. Efforts will be made to include ample opportunities to volunteer outside of traditional work hours for families that work. Points can be accumulated by extended family members, including but not limited to grandparents, aunts/uncles, and siblings, as long as they are at least 18 years of age and have completed the Prevent and Protect St. Louis requirement. Points are not transferrable between families. Exceptions or accommodations may be made on a case-by-case basis, and families should communicate their circumstances with the school principal by April 1 of the school year.
Conclusion: At Immaculate Conception Dardenne Catholic School, we believe that active participation from our school families is essential for the growth and success of our students and our school community. By adhering to this Time & Talent Family Commitment Policy, we can continue to strengthen our community and provide the best possible educational and spiritual experience for our students.
