Today we are moving on to 8.2, multiplying polynomials. I need you to look at EVERY example in your book AND watch these videos. Take notes in your notebook, do the examples there, and practice getting the right answers. There are a lot of videos today and a lot of terms. DO NOT RUSH through this; give yourself time to pause the videos and let this information sink in.
Add this information to your notes in your notebook.

For example #1: This is the distributive property....there are just more than 2 things inside the () Watch your negative signs and make sure you multiply the outside number by EVERYTHING inside the (). (Video clip: Multiplying monomials by polynomials, black screen.)

For example #2: This is an interesting way to do these problems. It works for any size polynomial (any number of terms.) A lot of my students like this method and it actually comes in handy in future algebra lessons. Knowing how to do it is important. (Video clips: Multiplying binomials by polynomials: area model, light blue screen and Algebra - Multiplying two polynomials, red and white screen.)

For example #3 and #4: Look over these, not very many people actually solve the problems this way. (Video Clip: Multiplying Polynomials Vertically and Multiply Polynomials Horizontally - black screen with bright green letters.)

For example #5: This is FOIL and this is how most people solve a binomial times a binomial. This is the most important example...because when you are in high school and doing more complicated math, you will do this in your head....not today, but when you are in high school. The word FOIL is just an mnemonic device for you to make sure you multiply everything by everything. (Video clips: Example 1 multiplying a binomial by a binomial - black screen with white letters and FOIL Method for Multiplying Binomials - Distributive Property - video with the teacher standing there.)

For example #6: You can look at it if you want.

For example #7: Look how they set up the problem, where the numbers come from. You will need to understand these when we get to the WS.

Homework today is graded on completion, due 4/23 by 8 pm. It is on pg. 507 #3-15 FC, 20,23,30-34 on formative

Today we are practicing section 8.1. Please look over your notes and pg. 499 to check your mistakes. Re-watch the videos if you need to.
Homework is in formative, WS 8.1. It is due on Tuesday 4/21 and graded on accuracy.

Due:

Wednesday April 15, 2020 in Google Classroom

Wednesday April 15, 2020

Good morning,
Today we are moving onto Chapter 8. The beginning of this chapter is very similar to what we have done before with combining like terms. However, in this section, please pay attention to example 1 and 2. The beginning of the video talks about this.
Today...
1) Watch the videos that I have included. Even if you think you already know how to do it, you NEED to watch the videos. In the videos called "two methods for adding polynomials" and "subtract polynomials-vertical method" the teacher explains how to add these vertically. Most people don't use this method, but if you like it, you are welcome to use it. Your book shows both ways to do it.
2) Read your examples in your book and take notes on them. You should do the examples in your book and try the guided practice questions that are after the examples.
3) Make sure when you are subtracting, you distribute the negative sign to everything inside of the ( ).
4) After you have done those things, you may start your homework. Pg. 499 #3-27 multiples of 3. It is on formative. It is graded on completion.

Wednesday 4/8/2020 Reviewing all we have learned with exponents. in Google Classroom

Wednesday 4/8/2020 Reviewing all we have learned with exponents.

Good morning,
Not everyone has been "finding" my videos and other links I have been sending when I post it as "Material." So to make sure everything is in one place and has a due date and that your parents can see what is due, I will post everything under assignments from now on.

Today...
1) Go back and look the the assignments you have done on formative. You should be able to see the answers. Check the ones you got wrong. Do you know why? Analyze your mistakes. Go back and re-watch any of the videos that you need to. If you missed 3 or more on any assignment, you need to look at your work and answers and understand why. Reach out to me if you are unsure. I am not suggesting that you do this. You NEED to do this. I EXPECT you to do this.
2) In the back of your book, on pg. EP8, you will find today's homework. EP pages are located a few pages before the glossary. There is one page per chapter. Find EP8, you are doing #1-40. We would have only done these 3 sections of the chapter....so you are doing this instead of a test. Follow the rules and directions. Since this would be our test time, I think this assignment will be worth 20 points, but I might change that later.
3) Homework is on formative, but look pg. EP8 #1-40 for the questions, it is graded on accuracy and due on 4/9 at 8pm
