Welcome to the new school year! We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our school family here at ICD! The teachers and staff cannot wait to see all of our returning students and all of our new students. They have been working hard to create a welcoming classroom for your students to spend the year learning, creating, and praying. You will also notice all of the new updates done in the preschool wing over the summer. The updates included new flooring, lighting, ceilings, and painting. We are excited for you to see the space.
The start of preschool can bring tears and worry for parents and students. We are here to support you. Please know that you are not alone. If your child struggles to separate from you, we will love them through the struggle. We do everything we can to help make the process as smooth as possible and to assure them that they are safe at school and that school is AMAZING!
Here are few tips for ensuring a smooth transition:
- Make the break from your child as quick as possible. The longer that you linger, the more likely your child believes that you are going to stay.
- Assure your child that you love them, that you are confident that they will have a great day at school, that they are safe and that you will be back at the end of the school day.
- Talk positively about your child’s experience, teacher, and friends.
- Read books at home that help validate your child’s emotions. A few suggestions: The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, The Night before Preschool by Natasha Wing, Llama, Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney, and Daniel Goes to School.
A few reminders:
- Back to School Celebration is tonight from 4:30-7pm.
- First day of school for 4 year olds is Wednesday, August 13th.

- Please make sure to pack a peanut/tree-nut-free lunch for your child each day.
