Why ICD? First and foremost, faith-based education is paramount to our family, which is one of the main reasons I chose ICD when I re-entered the workforce after being a stay-at-home mom for 21 years. My name is Melissa Westhoff, and I have been shadowing and training this past school year to become the Office Manager here at ICD. My husband, Dan, and I live in Ballwin, MO, and we have four children. All four of our kids attended Holy Infant, a Catholic grade school. Our oldest daughter continued to Cor Jesu Academy and is now a senior at Mizzou. One of our twins went to SLUH and is heading to the University of South Florida, while the other twin attended St. Joseph's Academy and will be a freshman at Mizzou this fall. Our youngest son will be a freshman at SLUH.
Reflecting on the past 16 years of our children's Catholic education, we believe they are not only prepared academically for their next chapter in life, but they also possess the confidence, knowledge, and faith to navigate their days and make good choices. They have a strong moral foundation that helps them handle peer pressure.
Like most things, we believe you get out of something what you put into it. I am extremely grateful, thankful, and blessed to have been a stay-at-home mom. It allowed me ample time to enjoy volunteering and being involved with our school and parish. I loved being in the classroom with the kids for holiday parties, chaired our auctions, served as a homeroom parent, was a member of our Parent Organization team, and acted as School Board Secretary. Additionally, I led small faith groups for Confirmation and served as a core member of our youth group.
Catholic schools foster a strong community that rallies together like no other. The sense of community, power of prayer, and long-standing traditions have enriched our lives and made us feel part of an extended family that we know we can depend on for many years to come.
We believe that choosing Catholic education has been one of the best decisions for our family, and we would recommend it to anyone who asks.
