ICD Musical Theater Club

Hello ICD Parents,

I am excited to announce that the third year of our Musical Theatre Club at ICD begins on August 22nd. This club will expose your child to many aspects of the performing arts. The culminating project at the end of the year will be the musical Frozen Jr. If your child has ever wanted to perform in, create sets for, or work backstage for a musical, this is the club for him/her (participation form linked below).

Musical Theatre Club Timeline

  • August 22nd - Auditions and callbacks will be on August 27th & 29th
  • Every Thursday starting September 5th - Afterschool Rehearsals until 4:30 pm.
  • Some Tuesdays - Afterschool Rehearsals until 4:30 pm for main and supporting roles and some ensemble members
  • May 2nd and 3rd - Performances

Costs for Participation

  • Sibling discount - the 2nd child in the same family will receive a $25 discount, and the 3rd and 4th children will receive a $50 discount.
  • Please don’t let finances be the reason your child isn’t able to participate. Contact me, Molly Wilson, if you need special arrangements.
  • You will also be required to purchase the appropriate costume/costumes for your child’s part. Costume lists will be available in the second semester.
  • Refunds will not be given if your child can no longer participate.

Musical Theater Club Participation Policies

  • As long as registration numbers are feasible, everyone auditioning for the musical will be cast in a principal role or part of an ensemble cast.
  • If you choose to audition for a principal role, please understand there could be extra rehearsals to block or rehearse your musical number and/or scene.
    • 3-Strike Behavior Policy - We will learn appropriate rehearsal behavior and have a 3-strike policy.
  • You will be notified if your child gets a strike, and the reason for the strike will be communicated.
      • He/she will be given a chance to correct their behavior.
      • After 3 strikes, your child can no longer participate in the club.
      • Refunds will not be given if your child can no longer participate.
  • Attendance Policy - beginning the first official rehearsal day.
  • Two absences are allowed per semester per participant.
  • If your child has a lead role and misses 3 rehearsals in a semester, they may be recast.
  • If a student misses rehearsal the first time something is taught, then misses the second time it’s rehearsed, they will no longer be in that musical number or scene.
  • The rehearsal schedule will reflect the days each scene is set to be rehearsed.

Notes For our M.T.C. Parents & Student Participants

  • Every performance member attends the first day of auditions on August 22nd, even if they aren’t auditioning for a main role. Tech members will begin in September with their read thru dates which will be specified on the rehearsal calendar.
  • All performing members will learn choreography to a few counts of music from the show. This helps us see how they move and perform to assist us in placing them in the ensemble group that fits best.
  • A student must audition with a song to be considered for a speaking part.
  • Song tracks are hyperlinked below so you can hear the exact key in which the song needs to be sung.
  • It is ideal if they memorize the first few phrases but can bring the words with them if needed.
  • Some children will sing only four bars, while we might want to hear others sing more of the song.
  • Each child auditioning for a speaking or singing role will need to slate, which means they will clearly and loudly state their name, their grade, and which song they will be singing.
  • After the first day of auditions, you will receive an email letting you know if your child should attend callbacks and how to prepare.
  • Any new songs or sides (scripts we will have them read) will be provided beforehand so they can prepare accordingly.

We respectfully ask that you review all the above - timeline, policies, and notes - with your child to ensure they understand their commitment. The fun of this club is learning how to put on and perform a musical. If your child wouldn’t find fun in that, this isn’t the club for them. We understand children get sick and have things that come up. However, we don’t have extra time to teach what was missed at rehearsal. Due to our limited rehearsal time and the way our rehearsals are structured, our attendance policy is the best way to ensure every child feels confident being on stage come performance time.

To participate, please complete this Google form and pay your first semester fees by August 19th. We need to have participant lists as soon as possible to give dismissal information to all homeroom teachers. The email you provide on the Google form will be the one used for communication purposes. You will be notified of rehearsal schedules, pickup procedures, etc.

Your child doesn't have to have any experience at all to be part of our Musical Theatre Club. Last year, we had a few kids with a ton of experience, some with one year of ICD M.T.C., and some with zero experience, and the show was awesome. They’ll learn a lot!

A huge thank you to our administration for supporting us in our third year. I am excited to get started!

Blessings,

Molly Wilson – Musical Theatre Director
