Language Arts Curriculum Goals

Students will:

  • Read, interpret, and appreciate all forms of literature.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral presentation.
  • Use research writing skills effectively to gather information from a variety of sources for presentation.
  • Use the appropriate conventions of writing in written and oral expression.
  • Understand, recognize, and apply skills used in the 6 Trait Writing Program.

Kindergarten Language Arts Curriculum

Goals:

Students will:

  1. Capitalize the first letter of the first word in a sentence and first letter of a name.
  2. Add a period to the end of a sentence.
  3. Identify ? ! , “”, ‘s and explain usage.
  4. Define what a sentence is.
  5. Follow a series of up to four directions.
  6. Listen to and retell a story in sequential order.
  7. Speak clearly using full sentences.
  8. Phonics, Consonants, and Vowels: Recognize and identify letters in the alphabet, all consonant sounds, and long & short vowel sounds.
